I Sailed On Utopia Of The Seas. Would I Do It Again?
Alright friends, buckle up, because this cruise was next level for me. I’ve sailed with Royal Caribbean before, but stepping aboard Utopia of the Seas (Royal Caribbean’s massive, brand-new Oasis-class ship), was a whole new experience. This isn’t just a cruise ship; it’s a floating city with its own personality, energy, and enough dining and entertainment options to make your head spin.
Why Utopia Stands Out
Utopia isn’t your traditional long-haul cruise ship. Royal Caribbean is making a bold push into the short-cruise market with this ship, focusing on 3 and 4 night sailings that pack in everything you could want at sea without demanding a week-long commitment. For someone like me, who loves to cruise but isn’t always looking to take a week off, this approach is perfect. I got all the excitement and amenities of an Oasis-class ship in just a few days, which made me realize: sometimes, less can be more.
Boarding and First Impressions
Even as a seasoned cruiser, I found myself in awe as I walked onto Utopia. The scale is jaw-dropping. Multiple neighborhoods, endless deck space, and areas that feel like their own mini-resorts. Utopia is designed to feel both bustling and spacious at the same time. As I explored, I found myself mapping out my own “neighborhood route”, which lounges to hit and when, which pool to claim for my morning coffee, and which entertainment areas to check out later. It’s a little like a theme park at sea, and yes, I was geeking out a bit.
pools, Cabanas, and the Perfect Spot to Relax
Speaking of pools, Utopia really shines here. There are multiple pools, waterslides, and deck areas, giving you plenty of ways to soak up the sun.
Something I want to mention that I did splurge on to add a little extra luxury, Utopia of the Seas offers a variety of private cabanas, known as casitas, located in prime spots around the pool decks. These cabanas provide a shaded, cushioned lounge bed where guests can relax without worrying about finding chairs or dealing with chair hogs. They come with perks like dedicated drink service, pool towels, and a water cooler, offering comfort and convenience during your day at sea or in port. Honestly, having a casita is like having your own mini-resort slice in the middle of the action, perfect for reading, napping, or just people watching in style.
Entertainment & Activities: The WOW Factor
If you’re expecting big entertainment, Utopia does not disappoint:
AQUA80Too: High-diving, acrobatic water shows that will leave your jaw on the floor.
Youtopia Ice Spectacular: Elegant, breathtaking performances on ice, think Cirque du Soleil, but on a floating stage.
Deck Parties & Pools: Multiple pools, slides, and even a zipline, there’s always a way to let loose or just soak in the sun.
Neighborhood Experiences: From quiet lounges to lively bars, Utopia gives you the freedom to be as social or as chill as you want.
Utopia balances high-energy fun with quieter retreats, which for me was key. Even as someone used to the cruising lifestyle, it’s easy to see how this ship caters to a wide audience, families, couples, solo travelers, and seasoned cruisers alike.
Dining That Hits Different
Let’s talk food, because on Utopia, the dining alone is worth a spotlight. With 20+ dining options, there’s something for everyone, from casual fare to high-end specialty restaurants.
Royal Railway Dining: A train-inspired dining experience that combines immersive fun with amazing food. Perfect for indulging in a little nostalgia while you enjoy your meal.
Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen: Classic, comforting Italian with a touch of elegance, perfect when you want a sit-down dinner without being fancy-fancy.
Chops Grille: Steak night, but make it memorable. This is where indulgence meets perfection.
150 Central Park: Calm, elegant, and ideal for a romantic night or a quiet escape from the bustling decks.
But word to the wise, specialty dining adds up fast. You’ll want to pick your experiences strategically so you don’t blow the budget on day one. But you can totally skip the additional cost-restaurants and happily eat at numerous venues that are free!
I managed to eat at least one item from every venue that was included in my cruise fare and I was never once hungry. “Vacation Stomach” is a real thing. It’s science.
Cost vs. Value: MY TAKE
Here’s what I felt personally:
Yes, it’s expensive, especially for a short cruise. But you’re not just paying for a room, you’re paying for everything Utopia has to offer.
The ship’s designed to give weekend cruisers a premium experience. It’s called a “weekend game changer” for a reason.
If you pick your extras wisely (dining, shows, maybe skip some souvenirs), the splurge can feel worthwhile.
For people like me, who love to explore, take in the entertainment, and soak up as much ship life as possible, Utopia delivered way more than I expected.
Would I Do It Again?
100%. I’ve already sailed plenty, but this was my first Oasis class experience, and it felt like a milestone. The scale, the shows, the dining. It’s not for everyone, especially if you’re super budget conscious, but for someone who treats cruising as a full vacation (not just a trip from point A to B), Utopia is a dream.
If you’re also on the fence, especially if you’ve cruised before but never on this class of ship, I say give it a shot. Book smart, pick the extras that matter to you, and lean into the magic of a ship that truly feels like its own world.
